Supporting Extracurricular Engagement (SEE)

Madison County Veterans Assistance Commission and

Regional Office of Education #41 mini-grant

About: The Veterans Assistance Commission provides needed services exclusively to Honorably Discharged Military Veterans and their families. They work closely with all Veterans Service Organizations as well as Local, State and Federal agencies to ensure the rights to which each Veteran is entitled are preserved and granted.

The Regional Office of Education #41 provides support to local school districts and educators. They work collaboratively with the Illinois State Board of Education and all other community organizations to ensure the students within Madison County have access to a quality education through enrollment in excellent schools. They assist school districts in meeting all statutory requirements as well as provide professional development, licensure services, background checks and much more. Finally the ROE provides alternative educational opportunities for students who have struggled to be successful within their home school setting.

Mission: Research shows that participation in extracurricular activities has a positive impact on important outcomes such as academic achievement, sense of belonging to school and academic self-concept. As a result, the Madison County Veterans Assistance Commission and Regional Office of Education #41 are collaboratively making available mini-grants to school district sponsored extracurricular clubs and organizations that are typically not fully funded by school districts. The purpose is to promote student engagement within the school community which has proven to lead to increased success within the educational environment. Grants will include funding up to $500 and are intended to be utilized within the 2021-2022 school year.

Applications will be evaluated on the following:

·         Description of the project or program to be funded, including a needs statement and objectives.

·         Connection between the intended purpose and increased student engagement.

·         Impact a broad range of students and/or provide opportunities not otherwise attainable without additional funding.
