Madison County gets new associate judge

EDWARDSVILLE — Edwardsville native Ryan Jumper became Madison County’s newest associate judge on Thursday.

Jumper was sworn in as an associate judge of the Third Circuit Court by Retired Illinois Supreme Court Justice Philip K. Rarick. His wife Jennifer Ryan held the bible that he was sworn in on.

Jumper worked for the Granite City law firm of Callis, Papa & Szewczyk and as an assistant attorney for the city of Madison.. He earned his undergraduate degree in political science and business from Illinois Wesleyan in 2000. He received his J.D. from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2005.

Jumper is also a member of Mount Joy Baptist Church and serves as a board member for the Edwardsville YMCA.

Jumper was voted associate judge by the current circuit judges —which includes Barbara Crowder, Andreas Matoesian, William Mudge, Kyle Napp, Dennis Ruth, David Dugan, John Knight, Richard Tognarelli and Chief Judge David Hylla.

Jumper replaced former Associate Judge Luther Simmons, who retired from the bench earlier this year and went to work for Simmons Hanly Conroy, in Alton.
