Madison County sells car to Village of Alhambra for $1

EDWARDSVILLE — Madison County recently sold a surplus vehicle for $1 to the village of Alhambra.

Chairman Kurt Prenzler and County Board member David Michael, District 4, delivered the decommissioned Sheriff’s Department car to Alhambra Superintendent John Mindrup earlier this month.

“We are thankful for this,” Mindrup said. “We plan on using it at Village Hall to prevent wear and tear on the other vehicles. It will help us get the most life out of the village’s vehicles.”

He said it would likely be used by employees who do meter readings or inspections.

The county makes the vehicles available to governmental entities after being taken out of service due to high mileage or age. The county initiated the program more than 12 years ago for municipalities and emergency service departments

Michael said that this was the second retired police vehicle he was able to help obtain for an entity within his district.

“I’m happy to help,” he said. “Smaller communities don’t often have the funding to purchase new vehicles. It’s a savings to taxpayers.”
