Zoning Board of Appeals

The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) reviews all zoning petitions including rezonings (map amendments), special use permits, variances, administrative appeals, and any change to the zoning ordinance (text amendments). The ZBA is comprised of 7 members who are appointed by the County Board Chairman. The following members currently serve on the ZBA:

Don Metzler, Chairman
George Ellis
Mary Goode
Thomas Ambrose
Nicholas Cohan
Sharon Sherrill
Cedric Irby

The ZBA regularly holds public hearings to receive public input on zoning issues. The Madison County ZBA holds hearings at 5:00 p.m. in the Madison County Board Room. After all public input is heard and all evidence submitted for the record, the ZBA deliberates and votes on petitions. The ZBA provides a recommendation to the Building & Zoning Committee, who will then submit a recommendation to the County Board.

A schedule of upcoming zoning hearings can be found on the County Calendar or you may call the Department for additional information at 618-296-4985. Click here to view meeting agendas and approved meeting minutes.
