Comprehensive Plan Survey
The Madison County Planning & Development is conducting a survey as part of its public outreach efforts for the Comprehensive Plan Update. What is the Comprehensive Plan Update?
The Madison County Plan Commission started a process earlier this year to update the County’s Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan acts as the official land use plan for unincorporated Madison County and will be used to guide future growth and act as the policy basis for land use decisions. The Plan Commission consists of nine (9) appointed officials who have an interest or background in planning and development. The current plan was adopted in 2000, and in order for a plan to be effective and to meet ever-changing planning and development issues, a comprehensive plan should be updated every 10 to 15 years.
Planning Process and Timeline
The planning process is expected to take two (2) years to complete. The first 6-9 months of this process will involve a review of existing conditions, identifying growth issues, meeting with stakeholders, and developing policy alternatives. For the next year, County planners will initiate a comprehensive public engagement effort, explore issues and recommendations, and complete a draft of the plan. The final 6-9 months of the process will consist of the review and adoption phase of the plan.
