PLan Review Information

The purpose of a plan review is to verify that the structure, equipment, proposed menu and food handling are safe and in compliance with the food code. A well designed facility will have sanitation built in and assist in preventing foodborne illness.

If you are requesting a permit for the first time, you are encouraged to call 618-692-8954 before beginning the permit process and learn more from the County's Food Sanitation Ordinance.

Step 1 PREPARE
If you are new to the food and beverage business, please review Madison County's guidelines on opening a business to sell food and/or beverages.

Remember to contact the Health Department early into your process, as we are here to assist in avoiding any unexpected pitfalls and help you navigate the food code for any situation.  We can be a great resource!

  • Know what type of permit application you need to complete. Need help with this? Review the guide on permit types.
  • Make sure you have your construction plans/schematics (layout, equipment, plumbing, etc.) available if submitting for new construction or a remodel/review.
  • Know what other required documents you'll need to provide. These are listed on the permit applications, provided in step 2.
  • Have your contact information, owner & property information handy.
  • Know your project's plan review/application fees by reviewing the county’s Sanitation Ordinance & Fees

Mobile Food Establishment Plan Review
Packet for mobile food vendors who wish to operate on a routine basis throughout Madison County.

Use of Commissary Agreement — Base of Operations It is required that the operator of a Mobile Food Establishment has a base of operation from a permitted facility. ** This form is required before a permit will be provided. 

** It is the responsibility of the Mobile Food Establishment to contact each city office that the establishment will be operating for route approval.

Temporary and Seasonal Permits

TEMPORARY PERMIT
A Temporary Food Service Establishment is a food establishment that operates at a fixed location for a period of time not more than fourteen (14) consecutive days in conjunction with a single event or celebration. Every food stand operating at a temporary event is required to obtain a Temporary Food Service Sanitation Permit.

Cottage Food Operation

COTTAGE FOOD REGISTRATION
