1. Planning and Response:
In the future, PH-ERC plans to continue the work in planning that has been started by improving existing plans and creating other, more specific plans. PH-ERC will also continue to increase health department networking and other agency or government entities' understanding of public health’s role in events and their role with us.
2. Information Technology:
Continually improving redundant communication systems, via grant money the health department has aquired a satellite phone. We have redundant communication systems for periods when normal systems fail. In addition we have aquired radios and proper licensing to have additional means of communication with other agencies.
3. Continuing Education:
The staff is required by the state and federal agencies to participate in training that will lead to better public health preparedness. Staff and volunteers have had training in mass clinic set up and management, incident command systems, tactical communication and the Strategic National Stockpile staging, storing and receiving.
4. Epidemiology (study of the occurrence and distribution of disease):
The LEED worked with the state of Missouri and Illinois, along with local hospitals with a goal of implementing new and inventive active and syndromic surveillance activities that have enhanced the health department’s ability to recognize a terrorist event or infectious disease outbreak in the earliest stages.
