Madison County Highway Department is responsible for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of approximately 190 miles of county highways and bridges. In addition, the Highway Department provides technical assistance to all 21 township highway commissioners and is the lead agency for township projects constructed or maintained with Motor Fuel Tax Funding.
The staff works closely with local citizens and agencies, as well as with the Federal Highway Administration, the Illinois Department of Transportation, Madison County townships, the Regional Transportation Authority, and the Madison County Council of Mayors and various local and regional transportation projects.
Who maintains your road? Responsibility for road maintenance varies by road. Roads are maintained by Madison County, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), townships or incorporated towns, or by a private entity, such as a homeowner's association (HOA). Maintenance responsibilities include the pavement and snow removal. |
